Rudder

     

 

 

 


I haven’t any photos of the rudder assembly because my daughter took the digital camera away on a University trip. However, here are a couple of shots of the completed rudder. It took me three days to complete and I didn’t have any major issues with it.

I referred to Jeff Schultz’s website a few times before starting – an excellent site with lots of great tips and heaps of photos. I strongly recommend anyone starting out building a Sonex to take a look though Jeff’s website. The address is

A couple of lessons learnt the hard way:

1. Don’t cut the other side of the piano hinge – this left me short for the vertical stab. However, I had ordered extra hinge with the Wicks consignment, so this was no show-stopper.

2. Remember to rinse with water after alodining.
