Painting

I set up a paint booth in the back yard. Well, on a 466 square metre block of land with a 4-bedroom house, it isn;t much of a back yard. The booth is simply a single car portable garage I bought from the local auto parts shop. It cost around $200, so our American brothers should be able to get the same from Pep Boys or similar for around US$120. The booth proved really great, as I could spray to my heart's content without the fear of particles going over the fence. The inside walls looked multi-coloured at the end of the day, meaning most of the paint particles stayed within. However, for the sake of the neighbours, I put the air compressor in the small garden shed to cut down on the noise footprint - the little thing goes flat out when I spray!!

I am using a Ford colour called Pine and Lime. I am also using an automotive primer that really makes the paint stick. I have a regulator/water trap close to where I spray and have kept the hose from the regulator to the gun as short as possible to cut down the chance of water splotches. After a day's spraying, there was not a trace of water. The painting is easier than I thought - quite fun actually. The booth is plenty big enough to fit in the wings, so it's the right size. The parts I'm painting are the elevator, rudder, wheel pants, wheel fairings, cowl and fibreglass tips. I have also/will also paint the underside of the elevators, horizontal stab and wings with primer only
