Engine Baffles

I ordered the Aerovee engine fence baffles with the engine kit and fitted them after doing the cowl. The kit is a good start, but I need to make a few modifications, especially in the front LH area, where the exhaust pipe protrudes through the baffles. You can see the extra bits I rivetted in place to get it right. Also, there is a large area at the left hand rear of the baffle that doesn't come close to contacting the engine block - it's near the flywheel. There are two options here - fill the space with heaps of RTV sealant, or what I did and fit an additional small palte of aluminium. There is still a lot of sealing to do, and I used the high temperature RTV red stuff, the same as used at the base of the cylinders. The kit comes with the rubber cowl seals, which were quite easy to install.

This is not as small a job as I was thinking it would be. Another challenge is the oil cooler shroud, which has to be modified quite a lot to fit inside the cowl properly. Also one has to cut a vent for the air to run through the cooler, plus a deflector shield to send the air down that way. There are no plans on how to do this, so I just installed an angled piece of aluminium, which I trimmed to clear the oil drain plate and some other nuts. I also had to trim the oil cooler housing to get a nice clean hole from which to gain access to the drain plug.
