Corrosion Protection

After researching various methods of corrosion protection, including none at all, I decided to use an epoxy based primer with an alodine base.

Some builders don’t bother with any form of corrosion protection and to be honest, I could have gotten away with that line – Canberra has a very dry climate. But I’m kinda taken with the idea of playing with toxic chemicals and getting dressed up in overalls and breathing apparatus.

Here’s the process I follow.

1. Wash and scrub parts with water and a Scotchbrite pad just enough so the water doesn’t bead.
2. Immerse the parts in acid wash – I use WO1 Acid Wash from Paintcare in Tullamarine.
